Very rarely the patients require anesthesia and tranquilisation to perform an ultrasound.
It is the main tool in diagnostic work up in internal medicine.
Cardio echography examines the structure and the function of the heart as well as the vessels. Bloodflow and pressure gradient can be accurately measured by doppler.

Peripheral blood pressure measurement and ECG are two other important diagnostc tools.
